The Mormon 4 is usually the basis of most long term food storage plans. However, the food storage plan used by most survivalists is determined by what problems they expect to encounter. An economic survivalist might have a one or two month supply of rotated continuously canned goods. A social decline survivalist might have a mix of grains, freeze dried, air dried, canned goods, and seeds to supplement available food supplies during times of trouble. A nuclear war survivalist might have a five year supply of the Mormon 4 plus nitrogen packed seeds freeze dried, sophisticated water purifiers, and other supplies.

The ideal diet in terms of amino acid balance is meat. You can get the correct amino acid balance from grains most easily by making "Cornell" bread. For any bread recipe, make this change:

For each cup of wheat flour substitute:
  • 1 tablespoon of soy flour
  • 1 tablespoon of non-fat dry milk
  • 1 teaspoon of wheat germ
  • Fill the balance of the cup with wheat flour

For more information on Cornell bread read THE CORNELL BREAD BOOK-McCAY from Dover, or order it from Jeanette B. McCay, 30 Lakeview Lane, Englewood, FL 33533.

Another food plan covers one year with bare essentials. These are suggested basics only. You can build, add to or alter to suit personal taste. Many folks want guidelines for "how much". That is the intention of this plan.
